The average woman uses twelve personal care products every day. This exposes the average woman to up to 126 different chemicals every 24 hours 365 days a year! While some of these chemicals may be benign, others are not. In fact, some of the ingredients in many cosmetics products have been linked to cancer, infertility, and hormonal dysfunction. Although the skin is a protective barrier, it is not impenetrable, and many of these chemicals are absorbed through the skin into the body where they can do harm. With repeat exposure, women are at risk!
Emani Vegan Cosmetics is committed to excluding any ingredient that has been shown to have negative health effects. Our number one priority is your health, and we will not put your health at risk for any reason. That is why we refuse to use sunscreen chemicals in our products. Rather than use chemicals that have been linked to improper estrogen activity and increased growth of tumorous breast cancer cells, we use zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, both safe alternatives for blocking UV rays.
With that in mind, we encourage you to be mindful what goes onto your body. Read the labels of your cosmetics products to ensure that they are not putting your health at risk. Think of it like a diet for your skin – you don’t want junk food! In our quest to give you beauty and enhance your skin’s health while keeping in mind the health of the rest of your body, Emani is proud to be part of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics.
Paraben is the term designating a group of cosmetics preservatives that includes butylparaben, propylparaben, methylparaben, and ethylparaben. Used by many cosmetics companies due to their low cost and effective preservative properties, parabens have been linked with numerous health disorders including breast cancer. In January of 2002, The Journal of Steroid BioChemistry and Molecular Biology reported that more than 90% of cosmetic products on the market include some form of parabens. Some parabens mimic estrogen in the body. As they do so, they expose the body to higher levels of estrogen than is natural, disrupting the body’s natural endocrine balance. This increased estrogen exposure has been linked to breast cancer and increased proliferation of breast cancer cells. Accordingly, Emani will not use parabens as preservatives in any of its offerings. Your health is more important than the shelf-life of our products.
Emani uses only botanically-derived, certified-organic ingredients and natural minerals in our products. In formulating and manufacturing our makeup, we combine plant and flower extracts with three key minerals: mica, titanium dioxide, and iron oxides. Mica is a transparent mineral that can be opalescent, sparkling, or matte. It is often treated with iron oxides to yield brilliant, gorgeous color-effects, making it a great additive for makeup products. Iron oxides are naturally occurring and vary in color depending on how much water is added to them. Titanium dioxide is an inert earth mineral that is used in cosmetics products to thicken, whiten, lubricate, and block the harmful UVA/UVB rays of the sun without irritating the skin. These three minerals are considered safe and non-irritating on almost all skin types, which is why we use them.
Emani believes in beauty without cruelty! Accordingly, we do not use any animal-derived ingredients in any of our cosmetic products. This includes using synthetic bristles in our makeup application brushes rather than animal hair. None of our products are ever tested on animals. Our commitment to cruelty-free products has earned us official certification from PETA. To learn more about People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, go to www.peta.org.
Gluten is a protein commonly found in rye, wheat, and barley. Recent information has shown that gluten causes inflammation and health problems in many individuals. It has been known to cause rashes, fatigue, depression, endometriosis, and gastric reflux. It’s not surprising, then, that over the past five years demand for gluten-free products has grown over 50%. In order to ensure that none of our products lead to the detrimental health effects associated with gluten, we are committed to remaining gluten-friendly and offering you gluten-free cosmetics options.
